The story of a young girl fulfilling a destiny denied.
Pai is 12 years old, and knows she has what it takes to be the chief of her Maori tribe, but tradition and a thousand-year-old story says the first-born son will take that role. Pai struggles against the expectations and constraints of her tribe, knowing all the while that she has what it takes to lead.
Keisha Castle-Hughes was nominated for an Academy Award at age 13 for her performance as Paikea Apirana, a young girl both loving and resisting family and community.
