Before Lord of the Rings, director Peter Jackson and screenwriter Fran Walsh co-wrote Heavenly Creatures, based on the true story of two young girls who committed a murder together.

15- and 14-year-olds Pauline and Juliet (Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet both making their first acting appearances) meet when Juliet transfers schools, and soon are fast friends. As their fantasy world becomes deeper and more intense though, real life starts to seem less and less attractive. With a psychedelic touch, Heavenly Creatures draws the viewer into two teen girls’ private world.
